CPS + Portal

CPS has revamped their website in the last 2 years. Compared to how dry it was before, this version is much more user friendly. And I don't mind the Portal. I also didn't mind designing in QuarkXpress, so go figure...

Craig's blog

When I saw his post about livebinder.com I immediately thought about how we could use this in Curriculum & Instruction. Wonder if it would make a difference when applying for a job to have a complete teacher portfolio available online...

LTAB Semi-Finals

So, I was a judge yesterday at the Steppenwolf Theater for Louder Than A Bomb. Those unfamiliar, SAIC faculty Kevin Coval co-created this initiative 10 yrs ago. How do you judge a teen who has the courage to stand on stage and pour his/her guts out in a web of words, you ask? Well I'll tell ya...It ain't that easy. I tried to not succumb to what's known in the biz as 'score creeping.' This is when the judge starts out giving conservative scores at the beginning, gets caught up in the event and gives out lavish scores towards the end. I based my rubric on relevance of content to audience, wordplay, delivery, clarity, authenticity of emotion, and that 'it' factor. I got heckled a lot. It was really enjoyable. I was waiting for something to punch me in the heart and make my eyes bleed. It didn't happen in the semi-finals, but hopefully I witness it at the finals on March 6th at 6PM Vic Theater.
With that said, I have no authority over how amazing each one of these participants is by the sheer fact that they are trying. It's a lot easier to make worse decisions than to decide to be vulnerable and explore your feelings. I am sure glad that this exists as an outlet for our youth. And, I am sure it will continue to grow in strength.

Take the time to watch this trailer. You will not be disappointed.
